Surreal yet Beautiful Art Exhibition....
Unfortunately this Exhibition has just closed at the Barbican but it had such a profound effect, that I feel I need to tell the world about it!
Artist: Céleste Boursier-Mougenot
Title: New Commision for the Curve
Art Gallery: Barbican
About the Artist/Exhibition:
Trained as a musician and composer, French artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot creates works by drawing on the rhythms of daily life to produce sound in unexpected ways. His installation for The Curve will take the form of a walk-though aviary for a flock of zebra finches, furnished with electric guitars and other instruments and objects. As the birds go about their routine activities, perching on or feeding from the various pieces of equipment, they create a captivating, live soundscape.
I went to the Barbican to help a friend with some promotional work and after the event we wandered onto the exhibition....
As we entered, we could see this older lady standing completely still, with about 8 Finches scattered about her head and shoulders, we stopped in awe and jealousy. Then our attention was distracted by the random noise reverberating round the room, random guitar chords, playing adhoc notes whilst subtly entwined with chirps of birds and human whispering. A huge smile took over my face, what a fresh and bizarre idea, and so beautifully executed.
This artist had taken the classic bird song to another realm.
We stood in that room for about 30 minutes, watching the birds play their tunes, it was fascinating, to be so close to such a beautiful bird, and they seemed completely non-plussed by our presence.
I recommend you look out for this artist in the future.
