Designer Alan Fletcher had a penchant for looking at the world in a unique, witty, exhaustive and clever way. His work is intensely personal and instantly recognisable for its effortless simplicity, visual wit, and an inherent joy and surprise.
Next week sees the 10 year anniversary of his iconic book 'The Art of Looking Sideways', which is a concise demonstration of Fletcher's mind at work, loaded with clever visual challenges.
The book captured the sensory overload of contemporary visual culture when it was published and the content is still relevant today. In celebration of ten years of this seminal publication and the work of a true design icon Kemistry Gallery is hosting 'Mind over Matter: Alan Fletcher’s The art of looking sideways' from August 25 – October 1.
The exhibition brings together a collection of original material and notes from Alan Fletcher’s archive, documenting thirty or so years of attentive curiosity by Alan at large. It is a truly unique and personal collection of visual imagery, design articles, factual and cultural curiosities and quotations.
